Sailors and Friends:
Just because there is a foot or two of ice on the Mackinac Straits
does not mean we can’t be enthused about talking about sailing
already. Mackinac Island Yacht Club has developed a great array
of races this summer open to all sailboats. The schedule of races
are intended to provide
skippers, crew, families, and supporters some real sailing fun!
The 2015 yacht
racing schedule is as follows:
July 5, 2015 - Pink Pony 4th of July
This annual race, sponsored by
the Pink Pony and Chippewa Hotel, is open to all sailboats as a
jib and main event. This is a fun, family event with a cabin
plaque awarded to all boats. There is no entry fee. The party
and awards ceremony will be held at Mackinac Island Yacht Club
immediately after the race. All participants will receive a
July 15, 2015 - Chicago Mac Race Week - Round the
MIYC will be hosting the
Eighth Annual Chicago Mac Race Week - Round the Island Race.
This regatta will always be on Wednesday following the Chicago
Yacht Club Race to Mackinac. The race is open to all sailboats
in the Chicago Mac Race and all boats in the Mackinac area.
The first warning signal will be
at 1:00 EDT. The start line will be near the East Breakwall,
rounding the Island to port, finishing directly south of the
Mackinac Island Harbor. Immediately following the race, the
awards ceremony and party will be held at Mackinac Island Yacht
Club with food, drinks, and lots of fun. Prizes include brag
flags and keeper trophies. The Madigan Trophy is awarded to first

August 8, 2015 - Mission Point Mac to Mac Regatta
This race is
the first of what will be an annual regatta sponsored by Mission
Point Resort. This race course will be a fun venue, racing from
the Mackinac Island Harbor, to the Mackinac Bridge and back.
Mission Point will be providing a great party and awards ceremony
following the race at “The Bistro”, on the grounds of Mission

September 6, 2015 - Horns Bar Labor
The annual Horns Bar Labor
Day Regatta takes racers through the round the Island course. It
is a fun event open to sailboats of all classes. There is no
entry fee. The awards ceremony and party will be held immediately
following the race at Mackinac Island Yacht Club, courtesy of
Steve and Patti Ann Moskwa, owners of Horns Bar and the Yankee
Rebel. All participants will receive a cabin plaque.
The first in fleet winner will be
awarded the “Andy Kiener Memorial Trophy”.
For all boats
that do not have a current PHRF (Performance Handicap Racing
Factor) Rating, you are encouraged to secure a certificate. The
Lake Huron PHRF Association is the designated certifying body.
However, if a boat has a current PHRF certification from another
certifying association, it will be honored.
The cost for
securing the certificate is $40. The certificate will be renewed
for free every year thereafter, as long as no changes have been
made to the boat or sails, and the request is made by April 1. IF
YOU DO HAVE A CURRENT PHRF CERTIFICATE, INSURE YOU COMPLETE YOUR
REQUEST FOR RENEWAL BEFORE APRIL 1 TO WAIVE ANY RENEWAL FEES.
