Orazietti views results of $70,000 Trillium grant for Algoma Sailing
Club
Province funds improvements to local facility
Sault Ste. Marie - MPP David Orazietti met with members of the Algoma
Sailing Club today and had an opportunity to see the renovations they
did to their premises as a result of an Ontario Trillium Foundation
grant from the Provincial Government.
The $70,000 grant was issued in the Fall of 2003 and over 40 people
contributed 1,100 hours of volunteer labour.
Mr. Orazietti congratulated Gordon Simpson, fleet captain and presented
him with a plaque from the foundation.
"As a port city, sailing and marine activities are important to
Sault Ste. Marie," said Orazietti. "I am very pleased that the
Algoma Sailing Club has utilized this funding to make renovations which
will benefit local sailors and improve the club's capacity to host local
events."
The Algoma Sailing Club received the funding so that they could renovate
their facility, making it safer and more accessible for everyone in the
community, for club members, as well as local organizations looking for
a location to hold their meetings or events.
The club has upgraded their washrooms making them more accessible, done
some extensive landscaping and repaired ceilings, replaced some
carpeting and upgraded their lighting.
"The members of the Algoma Sailing Club wish to thank the
Government of Ontario and the Ontario Trillium Foundation for providing
their facilities' renovation grant," said Gordon Simpson.
"With the Algoma Sailing Club's position much more secure, present
and future sailors of Sault Ste. Marie will have an excellent venue from
which to enjoy this marvelous sport for years to come."
